Re: Spam!?
I believe the reason you see the frequency increase is because word of a place where they can successfully post spreads. They work on the concept that if even a tiny percentage of their posts are clicked on and even a tinier percentage of those lead to a sale or data mining, its a success when you are talking about millions or more adverts, so they will use any trick they can to get you to click.
I am glad you solved the issue, they are more than white noise, they can actively harm potential customers of your product and I am sure by now how important good word of mouth for your product is.

Isn't that the thing I suggested a little ways back? I never knew the "official" term for it. Can we crowd source what the Question/Answer will be?
Allow me to get on my soapbox for a minute; I'm going offtopic.
You guys are one of the best online communities I've had the pleasure of associating with. People are polite and knowledgeable about what they post, the devs interact directly within the community, and most importantly the mods we have are effective and don't have swollen egos. I just popped into the Kerbal Space Program (great game btw, definitely worth looking at) forums and it's an outright mess. Mods raging at users, users raging at mods, prominent modders acting like they're above the rules, roleplayers gone wild, little to no interaction from the dev team... It's a little sad. Now I don't like to talk smack about games and their communities, but hanging out there really makes me appreciate this board a bit more. God knows what will happen when we go beta and final release. Please note that this isn't intended as an attack on KSP or its forumgoers, just some opinions drawn from my experience there.
OK, I'm putting away the soapbox now.

Re: Spam!?
Hey,
I write this at 2am in the morning with the misses next to me sleeping, so dont judge my post if I might be wrong....Q&A captcha works in the following way... you have a number from one to ten.... then the captcha asks what does four and five add up too? since the bots can't answer the question correctly they cannot register, I think that honestly the new mods that both Matt and Justin have implemented have stemmed the traffic alot, I have only deleted 4 today, I think it is not too bad to moderate... but we will see.
Warbird, I dont think that the forums will change I find that there are alot of people that care about how the community will develop and that alot of people with large and good personalities will be a great influence on the forums and will not end up like alot of gaming forums where there are alot of arguements and disagreements, I dont care if this keeps the forum smaller as long as we do not end up like alot of larger forums where people are afriad to speak their mind for fear of being warned, or even worse banned!
Yes we have had alot of problems with spam but this is something to be expected with phpBB and their open source code, unfortunately there are spammers that will look at the code and take advantage of holes... this is something that we will definately plug and something that will not be tolerated. We cannot forget that Matt and Justin are coding the game but also trying to modify the forums to keep them safe from spammers, I myself think that they are doing a good job and that we are not too far from being spam free.....
I'm signing off for now

Re: Spam!?
I'm not too worried about the forums (now that the spam it under control at least). I think all you folks are awesome, with the adult like conversations and making opinions and statements that don't involve racial slurs or quips about my mother. Since the forums are already open to the public, once the game goes live, we should have a fairly stable community. The occasional crazy person shouldn't upset the balance.
