Like some other people, FTL is crashing whenever I try to load it up.

Do you also have an on-board Intel graphic chip?

Yeah, Intel HD 4000. I've tried running it with that too, but with the same result.

Well i run the game on an Intel HD4000 and have never had any problems at all. Of course, that could mean nothing on a different PC, but of all the Intel IGPs this one seems least problematic.
You could try switching of V-sync in the Nvidia control panel and see if that makes any difference.

Hi Curare. Looks like it's dying during the video initialization, but if it's an identical crash log for both the integrated card and the nvidia card then that's strange. Did you check the crash log after both?
Try turning off the Steam in-game community overlay. You can do that by right clicking on FTL in you Steam Library and going to Properties. It's an option in the "General" tab.
There's also a bran new driver available as of today/yesterday that might be worth a shot, but given that you were up to date before it's unlikely: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook ... er-uk.html

Well, it's a step in the right direction. Now, the game window stays open and the music plays, but all I get is a black screen.

Was it the video drivers that made the change? Or disabling the community? Or something else?
Can you check for output in "stdout.txt" in the installation folder?
And can you add the line "swapTexture=1" (no quotes) to the settings.ini file in your installation folder?

It was updating to 310.90 for the nvidia drivers that made the change.
