Federation Cruiser not unlocked after beating the flag ship

I beat the flag ship is sector 8 and it did not give me the ship.
What did I do wrong?

I'm guessing you just got back into playing FTL after about a year of hiatus? Because the path to unlocking the Osprey has changed since Advanced Edition (by the way never turn the advanced content off). There's now a little quest involved in unlocking it.

Go find a Rebel Stronghold Sector (it's red) and jump to empty beacons until you get an event involving a large shipyard. There should be two choices. Go for the one that gets you closer.

Recoil in shock and horror as you encounter the Flagship... Phase 3! Flagship Lite!
Defeat it and you unlock the Osprey.

Depends on how your run goes. You might get an awesomely-armed ship with the capability of taking on Elite Fighters with an ASB firing upon you with ease, or you might end up with the Vortex and Giant Alien Spiders (no joke!) ruining your run.

But if you are to take on the Second Flagship, use lots of lasers or board them quickly. Once the crew is dead, no AI will take over. The ship will be disabled and you get a gun, a fleet delay for two jumps and a hefty amount of stuff (apparently it's the same large reward if you blow it up or disable the crew).

I wouldn't rush for the Osprey however. The ship isn't that great.
