Have to say this feels a bit too "on purpose". I know it's for getting those achievements whatsoever, but things like "go through as few battles as possible" and "reach the next session as quickly as possible" do not feel good.

Given' her all she's got achievement is a little bugged. You don't need any zoltan crew if you have a fully upgraded reactor and an upgraded backup battery.
I had 3 zoltan a for my entire run with the zoltan B and I never found another zoltan crew member, even in shops. By the sector 7 I was one jump away from the exit and at a store. I had loads of scrap and they were selling a backup battery so I thought, why not, I'll give that a try to see if it worked and it did. I only needed it to be at level 1 and I didn't use the extra power for anything.
