replacing icons

I've seen some sweet stuff by other modders who replaced drone icons with other stuff. How do I do tht, and most importantly, how do I make new features for old drones?

1. I am thinking about defence, combat, beam and antti-drone drones here.
2. this may become a total overhaul called FTL: Carrier Warfare

If you haven't unpacked the game's resources yet, do that using this tool http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1920. It will create 2 folders if you run it (dev_res and dev_data).

Drone sprites are stored in this folder: dev_res\img\ship\drones
You can edit their properties in dev_data\data\blueprints.xml and dlcBlueprints.xml
All weapon/drone etc. animations are stored in dev_data\data\animations.xml and dlcAnimations.xml
