Well, if it only crashes on this mod there must be something wrong with it. You could try to download with another browser or something. If it crashes with other, maybe you could try moving slipstream elsewhere (and/or re-download everything if you haven't already), or running it as administrator. Pasting the whole error log might help figure out what's wrong, too.

Sorry for the delay. One of my fluffies cracked my laptop display, so I had to order & install a replacement. I will try grognak's original program and see how it fares. As the Serenity ship mod is a relatively basic one, I don't anticipate any serious issues (assuming the program itself still runs). Will report back for any other Java-squeamish players who might come along in future.

UPDATE: Could not get grog's modman to see Python 3.6 OR 2.7.13 (the latest stable releases of Python 3.x and 2.x). Both times returned the "compatible release of Python not found" message. Reinstalled 3.6 for all users (not just me). Same result. I'm sure it's a fault on my end of things. Maybe it doesn't like Windows 7, or it somehow doesn't get 64-bit Python installs. I dunno. Maybe it's all a brilliant conspiracy on the part of Adobe to trick me into installing their accursed JRE. Those dastardly fiends!

Try dragging the py file directly onto the 2.7 python exe.

Or it might be the 64 bit issue indeed. Shouldn't be a problem to install 32 version.

Omg, I can't believe I didn't even consider that. I'm such a tool. Right-clicked on the main.py file inside the modman folder and opened it with Python (3.6 since it was still installed). The mod manager window opened right up, even showing the ship mod file I had placed in the appropriate subfolder earlier. Next round is on me, meklozz. Much obliged.

So I'm hoping somebody can help me with this haha

I had steam and all my mods on an external harddrive that became corrupted. I have a new drive now and redownloaded everything. When I try launching the mod manager the command prompt quickly went away. Found a batch file in this thread that kept the prompt open so I could see the error. The mod manager is trying to access java through a route going to the now none existent B drive (new external drive is D drive and everything is now in that drive).

So basically, how can I change where to mod manager is trying to access java from? Thanks!

SMM provides a runner executable (modman.exe) that runs the manager for you... Except it was built a few years ago, and may be getting confused by the leftover references to the old path. Try running SMM via this batch file (it does the same thing as the first one, except by manually invoking Java, not through modman.exe).
If it still fails, then it's likely that Java references in your system were not updated correctly to the most recent one (for whatever reason). Normally, uninstalling Java completely, and installing it anew should fix these, but if it doesn't, then we'll need to fix those references manually. I'll type up a longer post then.

Ah I'm an idiot, I didn't think to just uninstall java to get rid of the old route haha

Thank you! It's working again ^-^

An command prompt window opens for an split second then closes itself.
The batch supplied earlier in this thread did nothing placed in same folder.
i have got gog version of the game and on win 7 if that helps.

edit 1:
I mean when runsmm2.bat is run as admin it opens an dos command prompt but nothing happens.
