Re: Slipstream Mod Manager v1.4 (2013-09-20)
Hey, I know nothing about modding or anything really. I god the mod manager and none of the files show up when I use it. Not even the scrap advantage mod that comes with it. I tried adding another to the mod folder and nothing shows up. Can anybody help me?

@Domtux
I recall that there were posts about this issue, and it was resolved, but I'm unable to find them right now... Either way, check out this post.
If it still doesn't work, find modman-log.txt in the manager's directory, and post its contents here between [ code ][ /code ] tags.

Is there any way anyone can make a version of this mod manager that doesn't use java?

You could try using GMM, which is the old manager that was written in Python, however this is not a good idea as that tool is not being supported anymore, and SMM has introduced several new features that GMM won't recognise.
Though if your only concern is that you don't want to install the language's software, then you're out of luck, since Python also requires you to install its interpreter. Either way, there's really no reason to want to avoid Java.

hmm... That's disappointing. is there a way to just download the files to the mod and paste them in the proper folders in the "c/program files/FTL" area?

Nope. In order to install mods manually, you'd need to extract the game's archives, insert/merge the files, and then pack the archives again. But all programs that allow you to do that are written in either Java or Python.

I'm sry, but i'm just lost. The mod manager will NOT start for me. modman.exe pops a command line interface but just blinks away. the jar file does nothing. Admin start does nothing. I reinstalled ftl, tried dropping the smm in the directory... nothing has worked. I've scoured but I can't seem to find anyone having the same problem with SMM. I saw some post about similar issues with the older version GMM, but not this. Besides that there was little info in the readme besides basics, nothing to help me troubleshoot this. Im runnin win7 64bit.

Find modman-log.txt in SMM's directory and post its contents here between [ code ][ /code ]. Should it contain no error reports, do the following:
In the manager's directory, Shift-right click on empty space in the folder -- in the popup menu that shows up there should be an option along the lines of "Open Command Prompt Here". Select it, and once the command line appears, drag one of the .exe files into the window, and press enter.
This will launch SMM, but the command window will remain when the manager crashes, allowing you to copy/take a screenshot of the error.

No error log, heres the screen. Some kind of exception error with the jar file. Corrupt? I tried the jar file first, hence the first line, then the exe.

Uh-oh. That's a problem with the Java VM itself, and not the program. Try redownloading and completely reinstalling Java.
