August 1st Update: Mac Beta and September release!

Hello everyone!

August is upon us and we’re getting closer and closer to the release.  We’re finishing up development and in talks with our intended distributors: we’re looking at a early to mid September launch of FTL!  The exact date is still up in the air but we’ll let you know once we have one.

The Mac OS beta is live: It requires an Intel Mac with OS X 10.5.8 or higher (just like Steam). It’s connected to the same Beta keys that were sent in June: just install Steam on your Mac, log in with your same account and it should be in your library. If you never activated your key and need it resent to you, please contact us and give us the email address connected to your Kickstarter account.

On the beta side, we’ve been working hard during the past two weeks and have a big update:
  • Achievements:  We’ve put in 40+ achievements to test your skill but also to unlock new layouts
  • New Ship Layouts:  Each player ship will now have an alternate layout that features a unique look, different equipment and altered strategies.
  • Lots of other tweaks & improvements.

That’s it for now.  Thanks!

Smooth times in Beta Land

Hey everyone!

We’ve been working really hard to improve the game thanks to the help to our beta testers.   Some of the more notable changes have been:

  • A save on quit feature
  • New aliens and their home sectors
  • New items, weapons and ships

Although we are not accepting any more people into the beta, you won’t have to wait long for the game.  We hope to keep our updated plan of an Aug/Sept release date.  In the meantime, here are some previews and write-ups about a few player’s experiences in the beta so far.  Let me know if I missed something.

I haven’t had time to do another official video since the beta, but if you want to see the game in action check on YouTube. There are a number of Let’s Plays from beta users.

Thanks!

Forum Registration Bug

Just a heads up: something screwed up with the captcha system when new users attempt to register for the forums.  We’ll look into it but we are quite focused on the beta launch right now and it may be unusable for a bit.  Sorry about that.

It’s away!

We have officially started the beta: we just started sending out the keys to all of our Beta backers!

We’re looking forward to a (hopefully) smooth dash straight to release with the help of our testers.

Beta Update

Hello everyone! Big update for FTL today: we’ll be launching the Beta sometime within the next 48 hours! We’re just finishing up some minor technicalities and then we’ll send out the Steam keys to all of the $25+ backers. For those that will be participating in the beta, please make sure you can accept emails from devteam@ftlgame.com so we can send you all the relevant details.

FTL at this point is very close to what we consider “Feature Complete.” This is a big and exciting milestone for the game. We currently hope to still be on track for a late August (early September?) final release. So for those of you that won’t be in the Beta, the wait really shouldn’t be too long at this point. Our gameplay videos cover most of what we’ve added so far, and if you missed the last one you can see it here: https://vimeo.com/43328673. The only planned additions at this point is more content, mostly in the form of music, events, and our backer designed alien race. There are sure to be videos coming out as the beta is running, so you’re bound to be satiated with all the information you desire. Just try not to spoil the game for yourself (this goes to beta testers overplaying as well as non-testers watching too many videos!).

In other news, we’ve spent the last month working with the very talented writer Tom Jubert (of Penumbra fame). He’s been a great addition to our team in helping us add significantly more events to the game and creating the personalities of our various alien races. Find out more about Tom and check out his blogpost on FTL here:

Thank you once again for your support of FTL! I hope everyone who has a chance to play enjoys it! And check out our forums at  http://www.ftlgame.com/forum if you want to talk about the game (or anything else).
